Fed: Uranium export could lead to arms race - Brown

Greens leader BOB BROWN has warned that freeing up uranium exports could fuel a new
nuclear arms race and enable nuclear attacks on Australia.

Yesterday Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD flagged his government's intention to remove all
unnecessary restrictions on mining .. processing and exporting uranium .. and opening
the way for nuclear power in Australia.

And Labor voted to cast aside its 25-year policy banning new uranium mines.

Senator BROWN's told Network Ten .. exporting uranium to countries like Russia .. which
has just reneged on a major weapons treaty .. is very scary.

And he's warned India and China could bomb Australia with its own uranium.

Senator BROWN says the real answer to the threat of climate change .. is through energy
efficiency and renewable energy.
