NSW: Police rostering might be hampering crime fighting-audit
The New South Wales Auditor-General says the state's police could be hampering efforts
to fight crime by ineffective rostering.
Assistant Auditor-General TOM JAMBRICH (pron: Jambrick) has released a follow-up report
into a January 2000 audit of police rostering, tasking and allocation.
Mr JAMBRICH says a new rostering system has been introduced with a system to allocate
and record proactive tasks -- but neither system interfaces with police intelligence databases.
He says it's not much use rostering all the senior people from nine to five Monday
to Friday when the crimes are occurring outside those hours.
The follow-up report recommends NSW Police speed up their use of intelligence data
when rostering staff.
