Vic: Poor management led to fire deaths, coroner

GEELONG, Vic, Jan 11 AAP - Poor management of two firefighting agencies sent five volunteerfirefighters down a dirt track to their deaths in the 1998 Linton bushfire, the Victoriancoroner found today.
Coroner Graeme Johnstone said the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Department ofNatural Resources and Environment (DNRE) had "fundamentally different ways of tacklinga wildfire".
During their joint management of a wildfire in central Victoria on December 2, 1998,the CFA and DNRE used two different systems to coordinate the men fighting the blaze.
